BWCA FIRE

Gov. Dayton Washes Last Dish in BWCA
September 20, 2011 Gov. Mark Dayton surprised Salvation Army staff and volunteers Sept. 19 on their last day of serving food to emergency workers fighting the BWCA Wilderness fire.

“We were finishing cleaning up when Gov. Dayton came into the kitchen to thank us for coming up to serve,” said Valerie Stevens, Salvation Army Northern Minnesota Field Rep. “He washed the last really awful pan for us.”

State officials last week deployed The Salvation Army to serve hundreds of meals to relief workers in Isabella. The staff and volunteers were released from food duty this morning.

"We've been privileged to serve the men and women fighting one of the largest fires in Minnesota history," said Drew Hasty, Assistant Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army Northern Division.

Volunteer Crew Deployed to Boundary Waters Fire
September 16, 2011 Salvation Army volunteers left early this morning for the BWCA Wilderness, where one of the largest fires in Minnesota history has burned more than 100,000 acres since Aug. 18. The team will be in the city of Isabella for at least seven days serving hundreds of meals to firefighters and other emergency personnel.
