EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Project Break-Through
Project Break-Through strives to help families make long-term changes in their lives. This unique self-sufficiency program addresses underlying issues related to poverty. The program provides emotional support, resources, friends and role models through professional and volunteer intervention.

Project Break-Through seeks to empower each family in the program through a holistic approach that addresses:
· Education and employment
· Family relationships/parenting
· Personal growth and self-esteem
· Child care, housing, transportation and other tangible needs
· Spiritual development

Through hard work and determination, families in Project Break-Through have realized many successes. Participants have:
· Obtained employment
· Reduced or eliminated public assistance
· Located child care or transportation
· Found affordable housing
· Acquired GED certificates
· Obtained college degrees and professional licenses
· Strengthened family relationships

Volunteer mentors listen, support and encourage families as they work toward self-sufficiency. Through the mentoring relationship, families and volunteers develop committed friendships that build trust and acceptance.

Project Break-Through volunteer mentors are crucial to the success of the program. Mentors provide emotional and social support as they assist families with:
· Budgeting finances
· Time and stress management
· Job search and retention advocacy
· Locating resources
· Family roles and responsibilities

Employment assistance
The Salvation Army offers assistance in finding employment. Job placement assistance is available in Minneapolis at the Center City Office and in St. Paul at St. Paul Citadel.
