CORRECTIONS

The Salvation Army correctional services visits more than 145,000 inmates in correctional institutes and aides over 15,000 released inmates and their families every year throughout the United States. For men and women in prison, those about to be released, or those out and free after serving time, The Salvation Army has a great deal to offer.

The purpose of the Salvation Army’s correctional services is to minister to persons in the criminal justice system, including victims, offenders and their families. The Salvation Army’s multifaceted programs provide a holistic ministry to those we serve. Our goal is to restore individuals to their rightful role in society.

Our Toy Lift program, offered to the children of inmates, continues to be one of our most popular programs. Christmas toys and gifts are sent to children of men and women who are in correctional centers, in their name and on their behalf. Teams of volunteers visit institutions in October to have the inmates select gifts for their children. The child receives the gift just prior to Christmas, along with a personal note from either mom or dad with no indication that the gift has been sent by The Salvation Army.

Our LIFE Camp provides children (grades 1-6) of an inmate or recent inmate in the Minnesota correctional system the opportunity to create positive, life-long memories at no cost to their families. During the week-long camp, the kids have a chance to participate in activities like fishing, swimming, hiking and more. There is also a special focus on their specific emotional needs and life skills training.
