PRESS RELEASE
Vikings and NFL Charities Donate $15,000 for Fitness Zone at the East Lake Street Salvation Army
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – December 22, 2008 – On Tuesday, Dec. 23 from 11 a.m. to Noon, Vikings defensive tackle Fred Evans, offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie, and their mothers, will join youngsters at the East Lake Street Salvation Army center to put the finishing touches on a new Vikings-themed Fitness Zone. The Vikings, through NFL Charities, contributed $15,000 toward the project.
“This is an important addition to our facility,” said Captain Kevin Cedervall, administrator of the East Lake Street Salvation Army. “We go to great lengths to give area children a safe place to play in a very tough neighborhood. Being in the heart of the business district we have no green space, so providing physical activity is a challenge. This donation couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The players and their mothers will help paint the Fitness Zone walls and demonstrate to the students how to use the new exercise equipment. The visit also promotes the new program "NFL Play 60 : The NFL Movement for an Active Generation," which encourages young people to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.
The Salvation Army is located at 1604 East Lake Street in Minneapolis.
