Vikings Defensive Line Coach Karl Dunbar and Players
“Ignore No More” at Homeless Shelter
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – October 31, 2008 – Minnesota Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar and several defensive players will visit The Salvation Army Harbor Light Shelter, 1010 Currie Ave., on Oct. 31 at 2:15 p.m.
The group will give away Vikings collectibles and encourage Harbor Light residents to work hard and have a positive attitude during their journey to self-sufficiency.
The visit is in response to The Salvation Army’s new “Ignore No More” campaign (www.ignorenomore.org), launched last month to address the growing number of Twin Cities residents needing assistance. In the past year, Salvation Army food shelf use in the Twin Cities has surged nearly 70 percent. In addition, the number of people requiring Salvation Army social services has jumped 25 percent.
“We are thankful for the Vikings’ efforts to embrace our neighbors in need during this time of increased economic strain,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “Rather than turning away from people in crises, the team chooses to Ignore No More.”
The Vikings regularly support The Salvation Army through financial donations, in-kind gifts, player visits, ticket giveaways, and more. Earlier this month, wide receiver Robert Ferguson led a clothing drive that yielded 212 coats for children in need.
The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn.
