PRESS RELEASE

Salvation Army Welcomes Home Galveston
Residents after Hurricane Ike

September 26, 2008 – Yesterday, Salvation Army mobile feeding units (canteens) dispensed hot meals, cold water, coffee and compassion to welcome home Galveston islanders as they returned to their residences on the Texas Gulf Coast.

The Salvation Army, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and American Red Cross joined forces to operate a mass kitchen at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston. The canteens are stocked and dispatched from the museum to canvas the island offering meals and support. The Salvation Army has already provided 1.4 million meals throughout Southeast Texas to those affected by Hurricane Ike.

The Salvation Army serves in more than 100 countries and provides both immediate emergency assistance and long-term recovery help in the event of any disaster. Funds for The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services come from corporate and private donations given specifically for disaster relief.
