Stuff the School Bus provides new school supplies to children of low-income families. Now in its fourth year, the program annually provides about 45,000 backpacks, calculators, pencils, notebooks, crayons and other stationery items to hundreds of children served by the Twin Cities Salvation Army.

Collection bins are set up through Aug. 24 at metro area Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores for the public to donate more goods.

“We still need more help,” said Major Darryl Leedom, Commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “The need for school supplies this year is great. Adequate school supplies are essential to getting children enthusiastic about learning.”

Stuff the School Bus is presented by KS95, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, and is sponsored by 5 Eyewitness News, First Student Transportation, Sylvan Learning, Jennie-O Turkey Store® and Malt-O-Meal®.

The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn. It serves 2,100 hot meals a day and houses more than 850 people every night.
