Program in Jeopardy: Hundreds of Volunteers Sought to
Help Needy Children Shop for Back-to-School Clothes

“Leaders Launching Learners” program
to be held across Twin Cities Aug. 23

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – August 11, 2008 With just 12 days left, another 525 volunteers are needed to help 800 children of low-income families shop for back-to-school clothing for “Leaders Launching Learners” (L3), a Salvation Army program sponsored by KOOL 108. Large groups such as police departments, fire departments, teacher organizations, businesses and civic groups are strongly encouraged to help.

“Although we’ve already secured 300 volunteers for this activity, much more help is needed and time is running out,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “We hope that leaders from across the Twin Cities will step up and help us out for this wonderful event.”

L3 is a two-hour event being held at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 at eight retail store locations across the Twin Cities metro area, including Brooklyn Center, Bloomington, Coon Rapids, Maplewood, St. Paul and St. Anthony. Each volunteer will escort one child through shopping aisles and help them pick out $100 worth of shoes, shirts and pants.

People or groups interested in volunteering can find specific L3 locations online by clicking here or by calling 651-746-3400.
Walk-up volunteers will not be accepted.
