The MOST Amazing Race Coming Saturday, July 26
Race begins at 2 p.m.; 80-plus teams registered for 10 a.m. qualifier

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – July 24, 2008– Ready, set, go: On Saturday, July 26, up to 50 contestants will race through Minneapolis for The Salvation Army’s MOST Amazing Race, a fundraising event patterned after reality television. The 25 teams of two will compete for $5,000, courtesy of Wells Fargo, by completing mental and physical challenges at well known locations throughout the city in this official Minneapolis Aquatennial event.

The MOST Amazing Race begins and ends at the Stone Arch Bridge in the Army Corps of Engineers parking lot, located at West River Parkway and Portland Ave. along the Mississippi River. Racers depart at 2 p.m. and begin returning at about 5:30 p.m.

Though details of this third-annual race are secret, last year’s events – rock climbing, cooking salsa, canoeing Lake Harriet and more – prove that no adventure is off limits. Racers travel to each challenge on foot or by using Metro Transit.

Eighty-plus teams are scheduled to attend The MOST Amazing Race qualifying event, being held the same day at 10 a.m. at the University of Minnesota Bierman Track and Field Stadium, located at the intersection of 15th Ave. SE and 5th St. SE. Twenty teams will qualify for The MOST Amazing Race. An additional five teams have already qualified by being top fund-raisers.

News organizations interested in knowing specifics about challenge locations may call The Salvation Army for details. The challenge locations are secret and cannot yet be published.

Race teams have raised more than $38,000. The funds support The Salvation Army's Bed and Bread Club, which helps alleviate hunger and homelessness in the Twin Cities.

The MOST Amazing Race is sponsored by Wells Fargo, Northwest Airlines, OfficeMax, WCCO 830, Metro Transit, The Minnesota Historical Society, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Swarm, and Minneapolis Sesquicentennial.
