Update: Donations Tripled in Albert Lea July 16–17
Minnesota Corrugated Box Inc. gives additional $15,000

ALBERT LEA, Minn. – In response to the Albert Lea Salvation Army’s budget deficit, Minnesota Corrugated Box Inc. and salad manufacturer Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen are each providing $15,000 in matching funds for all donations made to the nonprofit July 16 and 17.

“This promotion was originally going to be a double-match from Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen, until yesterday, when Minnesota Corrugated Box called and said they’d also like to contribute $15,000 in matching funds,” said Captain Jim Brickson, Albert Lea Salvation Army administrator. “Now the promotion has become a triple-match, meaning public donations of $10 are worth $30, donations of $50 are worth $150, and so on. The generosity of these two Albert Lea businesses and the local community is an incredible blessing.”

Donations can be made online at www.thesalarmy.org/albertlea, by dropping off a check at the Albert Lea Salvation Army or by giving to volunteers carrying donut boxes outside the following stores from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Hy-Vee Grocery, Hy-Vee Gas, Nelson’s Market Place, Shopko and Trail’s Travel Center.

Ten more volunteers are needed to collect donations in two-hour shifts at the locations above on Saturday, July 17. To sign up, please call 507-373-8776.

The Albert Lea Salvation Army is asking for community support to offset an unexpected $15,000 decrease in funding. The decrease comes at a time when the organization is experiencing a 78 percent increase in need for services.

The Salvation Army Northern Division has been serving Minnesota and North Dakota communities since 1886. Today the Northern Division includes operation centers in dozens of cities across both states. These centers provide food, shelter, spiritual enrichment and more to about 500,000 people a year.
