PRESS RELEASE
Salvation Army, Little Ceasar's Host Pizza Parties in
Flood-Weary Cedar Rapids
July 8, 2008 –The Salvation Army and Little Caesar’s are hosting pizza parties in three locations today and tomorrow in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for flood-affected residents, businesses, clean-up volunteers and emergency workers.
Salvation Army emergency disaster services (EDS) teams continue to provide up to 5,000 meals daily from three fixed EDS feeding sites and five mobile feeding units (canteens) to emergency responders, volunteers and affected residents. As of this past weekend, more than 120,000 people have received assistance in the Cedar Rapids/Linn County region, the area worst affected by the slowly receding waters, and more than 900 Salvation Army volunteers have served 6,000 hours.
In mid June, the Cedar River submerged 400 city blocks of Cedar Rapids and affected Iowa City, the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area and several other communities in eastern Iowa with historic levels of flooding. From the start, EDS teams from across Iowa and neighboring states have been providing meals and hydration and offering emotional and spiritual care.
The Salvation Army is asking the public to help. To donate, please click the button below or mail a check to 2445 Prior Ave. N., Roseville, MN 55113.
