ROSEVILLE, Minn. – February 26, 2010 – March 5 is the last day The Salvation Army will take applications for fuel assistance from North Dakota residents affected by a three-day ice storm in late January that cut power to thousands in the south and southwestern portions of the state.

Households that have been forced to use a generator for heat and electricity during the power outage may be eligible for up to $500 in assistance to supplement their fuel expenses. Many of these households have paid up to $200 a day in fuel costs, state officials reported.

Households seeking assistance may call 800-456-4483 to determine their eligibility or for more information. The assistance is aimed at, but not limited to, residents of the following counties: Adams, Billings, Bowman, Dunn, Grant, Hettinger, McIntosh, Morton, Slope and Stark.

So far The Salvation Army has received more than 200 calls about this program.
