PRESS RELEASE

Twin Cities Salvation Army Sending Two RNs
to Work in its Clinic in Haiti

February 19, 2010 – Two registered nurses will leave for Haiti on February 23 to work in The Salvation Army's medical clinic in Haiti for two weeks. The Salvation Army has operated a clinic and hospital in Haiti since the late 1950's. Although its clinic in Port-au-Prince was damaged, The Salvation Army has expanded the care into its adjacent school where more than 17,000 patients have been treated since January 12.

Hopkins resident Danielle Bauer works as an RN at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center resident Mary Breed is a retired nurse with experience working in military hospitals and overseas clinics. Both women will fly into Miami for a briefing with Salvation Army officials and then fly into the recently opened Port-au-Prince airport.

Along with its medical work, The Salvation Army in Haiti has served more than 2.5 million meals, is purifying 30,000 gallons of water each day and continues to distribute tents to some of the 20,000 Haitians camped out in a soccer field outside its Delmas 2 complex in Port-au-Prince.

The Salvation Army has raised more than $10 million nationally for its Haiti relief work, $510,000 from the Twin Cities alone.
