Up to $500 in Fuel Assistance Available for Qualifying N.D. Residents Affected by Ice Storm

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – February 5, 2010 – Some North Dakota residents may be eligible for financial assistance from The Salvation Army following an ice storm in late January that cut power to thousands living in the south and southwestern portions of the state.

Households that have been forced to use a generator for heat and electricity during the power outage may be eligible for up to $500 in assistance to supplement their fuel expenses. Many of these households have paid up to $200 a day in fuel costs, state officials reported.

Households seeking assistance may call 800-456-4483 to determine their eligibility or for more information.

The assistance is aimed at, but not limited to, residents of the following counties: Adams, Billings, Bowman, Dunn, Grant, Hettinger, McIntosh, Morton, Slope and Stark.

The Salvation Army Northern Division has been serving Minnesota and North Dakota communities since 1886. Today the Northern Division includes operation centers in dozens of cities across both states.
