Sewing Group Donates 2,000th Handmade Quilt
A Woodbury, Minn. sewing circle reached a milestone last month: 2,000 quilts sewn for people served by West 7th Salvation Army in St. Paul.
The group’s effort began in January 1997 when Delores Fitzgerald and Lavonne Buchanan from Woodbury Lutheran Church started the Eager Hands Quilters ministry. Today Eager Hands includes about a dozen women who quilt in Fitzgerald’s basement every Tuesday morning. (read more)
Donations Needed: Hygiene, Household Items for Twin Cities Youth, Adults
Donations of hygiene products and household items are needed for men, women and youth served by the Twin Cities Salvation Army. Budget hearings conducted last month revealed that hygiene kits (soap, toothpaste, etc.) are desperately needed at two Salvation Army facilities, while “Welcome Kits” (linens, kitchenware, etc.) are needed at two others. These four facilities serve everyone from homeless men and women to abandoned children. (read more)
Luthers Come to the Rescue...and for It
The Luther family, known in the Twin Cities for their car dealerships, couldn’t have picked a better time to donate a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV to The Salvation Army. "Five years ago we bought a brand new, fully loaded GMC Yukon - but we’ve put so many miles on it (nearly 200,000) that it needs to be replaced," said Special Events Manager Julie Orlando.
